At one end of Playa de Muro you will find one of the most charming and traditional beaches of North Mallorca. Known as Ses Casetes des Capellans or simply “Es Capellans”, it is more than just a beach.
It is a spot full of history, dotted with 140 cabins (“casetas”) built on the sand itself, most of which have been passed down generation to generation.
If you would like to know more about Ses Casetes des Capellans, its traditions and its people, there is a very interesting book you can read.
In this book, the professor and researcher Miquel Angel Tortell tells us about the area and its history. It is a unique on case on the island of Mallorca, and it is very interesting to find out more about it in the 51 pages of this book, which was published through the initiative of the Caseta dels Capellans Neighbourhood Association.
In the area of Ses Casetes des Capellans you will find some of the most famous beach bars, or chiringuitos, on the whole island. As well as their ideal location, they are famous among locals and tourists alike for their magnificent paellas and cocktails.
At Ponderosa Beach, Can Gavella and Opa Oma you can sample the rice and fish dishes with your feet on the sand. At the Es Pedrissos & Naturemar restaurant you can taste those same flavours from the heart of Es Capellans, next to the church.
Each year the local fiesta is held in Ses Casetes des Capellans around the feast of Saint Lawrence in August. Organised by the Muro Town Hall, it is a popular fiesta with all types of activities for children and adults alike.
Among the activities organised each year, there are usually cards championships, folk dances, gymkhanas, workshops for making ‘cocas de verduras’ (crispy bread topped with vegetables)... However, the most important thing about the fiesta of Ses Casetes des Capellans is not so much the activities themselves, but the wonderful fun family-friendly atmosphere that always abounds.
Es Capellans beach provides all the necessary services for users and swimmers whilst, at the same time, maintaining its charm and beauty. You will find a public car park in the area of Ses Casetes, but bear in mind that its capacity is limited, and that the inland streets are for the exclusive use of residents.
